DemConvention asked:
The challenge of green DNCC delegate encourages delegates to purchase carbon offsets for your travel to the Democratic National Convention 2008. These offsets will help fund projects such as wind turbine offered in this video from Wray, Colo.. Please note: The wind turbines shut down when the wind becomes too strong. On this day the wind was around 68 kilometers per hour!

I live in Wray and the Turbine doesn’t even work right now so it *****!!
This turbine isn’t even working, and the community hates it, contrary to what they state in the video. And it’s not just that it needs to be shut down for winds that are too powerful, it’s not connected to Wray’s grid. Even when it turns, there is no energy created. All of the kids in the video are board members children, and the little girl that talks is the superintendent’s daughter.
The real question: why is the wind in the shot so powerful that it is practically blowing the reporter over, yet the turbine itself is not moving an inch?
Wind turbines kill birds and beneficial insects if they are not properly shielded (which of course substantially decreases the energy they produce). If you put one of these turbines or a windfarm full of these turbines near a migratory bird route, it could result in serious harm to threatened and endangered species. Building a renewable energy source is great–but it would be even better if they used available technology to make that renewable energy source safe for all earth’s inhabitants.
