Wind Power Generates Cheap Electricity!

Wind power has been harnessed by people everywhere for hundreds of years. But, only recently to generate electricity for individual households, or on a large scale – like a wind farms. Wind generators are still used to pump water or grind grain in many places. The modern day equivalent to the early windmill generators is the wind turbine.

Wind turbines work on a similar principle to the old windmills – big rotating blades are mounted on a tower structure about 100 feet in the air to harness a maximum level of the wind’s energy. Two or three blades form a rotor on a shaft and when there is wind, a pocket of air forms on the bottom of the blades and causes the rotor on the wind generator to turn. This is what is called lift and this force is stronger than the drag caused by the wind pressure against the front of the rotor’s blade. When the drag and lift combine, the rotor spins like a propeller. This turns the shaft which spins a generator and the result is electricity from wind power.

Wind powered generators are flexible when used in individual situations, or they can be connected to the main power grid. They can even be combined with a solar power system to maximize your reliance on green power. Normally individual wind turbines are used for communications purposes or pumping water. More often we see farmers and householders take advantage of the wind in their areas to take advantage of wind power to cut their electricity bills.

Wind powered systems are ideal in many situations and they need not cost a lot of money to set up. There is a lot of research, advice and actual plans available, developed by experts who believe in using alternative energy sources. Along with the plans these experts have written instructions detailing how to build your own wind powered system cost-effectively. Whether your motivation is saving money, the environment, or both, setting up a system to harness nature’s natural resources makes sense. Especially in an age where our power usage is higher than ever and costing us more every day.

Wind turbine generators can be a good choice for backup power. If you live in a country area where the main grid power supply can be unreliable or the area is prone to weather extremes, it makes sense to protect your property with an alternative power supply for emergency situations.
Some people may be put off by the look of a wind turbine. But, really, who is really concerned about the look of a machine that can generate so much good for the environment and its communities. Do some research on the use of wind energy to help you save money on your electricity bills forever.
